We Have a Winner!

The grand prize winner for my lil' Reddick's Rhetoric Book contest is Andria Shelton! Thank you all for entering the contest, I got a LOT of response and sign-ups, and a BIG thank you to my good pal Thomas the Innkeeper who's site Webcomics, Inc helped promote the contest and made it all possible! Incidentally, Thomas the Innkeeper, as you may know, is the Legend of Bill Innkeeper (webmaster). Let's give it up for a job well done!! And while you're at it, be sure to check out Thomas' other site "WCI High" where he brings together various cartoonists to do high school versions of their characters who all attend the same school, WCI High. A novel concept and a lot of fun to boot. Now, get over to Webcomics Inc and check it out and sign up!

Back From Vegas, Headed to Dragon*Con!

Well, friends, the huge Star Trek convention in Las Vegas was a great success. Had a great time, and much was accomplished, and saw many old friends, and made many new ones as well. Keep an eye out at my blog at LegendofBill.com for pix of the con, as well as anecdotes, etc! I'll also post them in the Conventions Photos section here (see below) to boot.

Next up: Dragon*Con! I'll be there at the end of the month, and be heading to Utah for Mountain*Con a few weeks after that, then off to Orlando and then Indianapolis after that! Some great cons coming up, so keep your eye out for pix on LegendofBill.com, and on top of it all, Rob (DRS Webmaster) and I are plotting actual site updates and re-building of things right here at DRStudio for a more seemless experience, as well as solid navigation of the varied productions I'm working on.

Until then, in the words of Stan Lee -- Excelsior!!

STAR TREK VEGAS CON: I'll be heading out to the mega Star Trek convention by Creation Entertainment in Las Vegas as a guest and cohort with the Roddenberry family's booth, and be gone all next week, however, all strips and blog posts will continue as always, but if you don't see replies from me, you'll know why! But I'll be checking in regularly on my phone's Internet connection (and will post notes if possible, or at least twitters) so I'll be lookin' for ya', my friends! And if any of you happen to be going (Mike, I know you are, see ya there!) please look me up at the Roddenberry booth! (Which is promised to be the largest booth at the whole con from what they tell me)

GUEST STRIPS: Last night I finished two guest strips: One for my good buddy Paul Taylor's Wapsi Square, which will run next Friday the 15th (and on that same day Paul Taylor's Princess Gina Fan Art will run here!), and I also finished a guest strip for my good buddy and fellow Tall Tale Features alumni Mike Witmer's Pinkerton, which will run soon as well!! So, be sure to visit their awesome pages regularly to keep an eye out fot them!!

Vulkon Convention!

Attention convention-goers! I will be a guest at Vulkon Entertainment’s Sci-Fi Expo in Orlando July 18-20, so if you are in the area, or if you want to get a ticket, come on out - I’d love to meet you! I will be joining my fellow guests Jonathan Frakes (Riker, TNG), Nana Visitor (DS9), Erick Avari (Stargate, etc), Kavan Smith (Stargate: Atlantis, SG1, 4400), John Schuck (Star Trek, etc), Gwynyth Walsh and Barbara March (the Duras Sisters from ST:TNG)!

Vulkon always throws an awesomely fun convention, and the karaoke night (which I shamelessly partake in) is worth the price of admission alone! HAHA. If you do happen to be there, look for my table in the autograph room amongst the other guests, and pop by for a caricature, and lots of freebies like buttons and my brand-new 2-sided Roddenberry comics FLIPPIE ANIMATION BOOKS!! See you there!

Debuting Today: Tall Tale Features!

I've joined forces with a group of cartoonist friends called "Tall Tale Features!"

Today is opening day and I hope you'll all head on over and check it out.

Tall Tale Features is a group of well-known (in both print syndication and webcomics) and professionally-minded cartoonists who have banded together to say "Hey, quality webcomics found here!"

This is illustrious group consists of:

• Lucas Turnbloom of Imagine This
• Brian Anderson of Dog Eat Doug
• David Reddick of Legend of Bill
• Mike Witmer of Pinkerton
• Scott Metzger of Stewart
• Brock Heasley of The SuperFogeys

Yeah, that's some serious talent up there. Head on over to TALL TALE FEATURES to find links to each one and check 'em out. Quality stuff!

What else can Tall Tale offer you? Glad you asked. On the main page you're going to find a frequently updated blog filled with news about your favorite comics, pop culture musings and whatever else we feel like talking about. It's also your source for the latest news on all the Tall Tale comics.

Getting into the site a bit more, you'll find bios of each of the creators on Tall Tale and a link to "TTF Radio" a podcast that will be starting up shortly, hosted by Tom Racine (of Comics Coast To Coast) and featuring the Tall Tale crew on a rotational basis.

But the heart and soul of Tall Tale Features has got to be the FORUM. There you'll find separate forums for all your favorite Tall Tale webcomics, along with other forums for discussing nonsense, movies, etc....and a place to plug your own work, too!

So, without further ado, Tall Tale officially kicks off today so now's a great time to get in there, register on the forums and start being a part of things. We expect big things ahead and hope you'll be there for the ride, and join us in the fun!

Legend of Bill

Well, you'll notice a lil' comic strip below called "Legend of Bill." This is the fantasy comic I've been toying with for my own amusement, and this is the first strip I created, as a practice piece, to see how the main characters look in their setting, and how they interact. You have Bill the Barbarian, his lil' blue dragon companion Frank, and the beautiful princess Gina, who's no slacker herself when it comes to being tough as nails. Not sure what I'll do with this just yet, but it sure is fun to play with, (I've written several more) and I had a blast making this first comic, so thought I'd share it here. If you wanna see more Bill, drop me a note and let me know! Funny, I heard quite a bit already just from the sketches I had posted before!

Gene's Journal launches today at Roddenberry.com!

Well, the day has finally come!
"Gene's Journal," my new webcomic at Roddenberry.com begins today. I'm very excited, and have already had a lot of response to it. "Gene's Journal" follows young Eugene Roddenberry, just a regular kid trying to make his way through school, friends, life... only now, he's suddenly being abducted by aliens. A lot. And he keeps a journal about it all, so he remembers it all when he's older. Hmm ... coulda been some influence there, ya' think?

Pop on over and check it out! Look for a new strip every few weeks to start things off. And some more content too!

Your Trekkin' pal,

David

New Content Fun!

Okay, so I've been playing with some new webcomic ideas as I said I would, and been getting all excited about 'em. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Real Life stuff - all sorts of ideas. The ol' sketchbook pages have been burning like molten rock under the pace of my Ticonderoga #2 pencil. I love webcomics. I love the webcomics sense of community. Increasingly so, as I find more and more new ones pop up here and there, and watch many of my favorites become better and better. My faves right now? Evil Inc. (Brad Guigar's art is some of my favorite), PVP, Penny Arcade, Starslip Crisis, Looking For Group, Yenny ... the list goes on, so many more I should mention, but these are some of my top faves at this posting. To be honest, as I work up some of my ideas, especially the one below (as yet top-secret-to-be-named!), I'm not sure where to attempt to place it. Here on my homepage? My own "side" webcomic website? Perhaps approach a great webcomic syndicate like GoComics, Keenspot or the like? I've always had my eye on the super group of cartoonist's at Blank Label Comics. I'd just love to get it out there. It's exciting!

As I await the launch of my new super-fun webcomic "Gene's Journal" at Roddenberry.com, and cross my fingers for "The Trek Life" return at STARTREK.COM, I am simply taking the time to enjoy some fun new directions with some work I've been wanting to "play" with.

Hope you enjoy, and come back for more postings below in the new "From the Sketchbook" section... as you just might find an actual webcomic or two there to review as well!

And don't be shy - send me an e-mail and tell me what ya think!

Your pal,

David

Whew! Back from the huge Star Trek convention in Las Vegas and WOW! What a great time meeting such wonderful fellow fans and making tons of new friends. I tell you, there are no greater people than Star Trek fans, and when you go to a convention you feel like family ... like, if your family had about 25,000 people or so at one family reunion!! Passed out tons of "Carlvis" buttons (Carl, from The Trek Life comic strip on STARTREK.COM that is!), and simply had a ball.

See you there next year!!!

Viva Las Vegas!

As I prepare for Creation's official Vegas convention next week (9-12) I'm reminded of one thing ... I've got a LOT to do!

I just finished a special-edition "The Trek Life" Carlvis (Carl in Elvis gear!)button design that we'll (myself and the awesome STARTREK.COM team) have available only at the convention as a giveaway, so stop by my table in the vendor's room! It's a fun design, to say the least... can anyone say - "lip curl?"

There is also a slew of images and content heading to the site, so stay tuned. And of course, the daily Reddickulous comic!

More to come, and keep your eye on the Convention Photo section for pix from the great Columbus show, and forthcoming Vegas pix to boot!

"Reddickulous" daily comic Launches on DavidReddickStudio.com!

Hello all!
It is with great pleasure that I introduce a new slice of daily content for DRStudio.com... (drum-roll please...) "Reddickulous!"
"Reddickulous" is my daily panel cartoon that captures the absurdities all around us, fictional and non... the crazy things that DO happen, or COULD happen ... well, heck, it's a daily cartoon about things I think are funny! Anything can happen in the Reddickulous world of cartoons, and that's why I love cartooning... endless possibilities... and punchlines.
So, I hope you enjoy the show, and please make a trek to this Web site daily, yep, that's right, 7 days a week, for a new cartoon to hopefully bring a chuckle to your day. I know they do to mine. Maybe you'll find something ridiculous... er, Reddickulous... to laugh at!

And be sure to drop me a line, and let me know what you think! (Look for the cow to the right over there)

Your pal,
David

Vulkon Convention, Tokyopop

Hello friends!
Well, getting ready to hit the convention trail again to Vulkon’s “Columbus Sci-Fi Expo” in Ohio, where I’ll get to hang out with Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Tim Russ and a host of other great performers, I can’t wait! I also did the official convention t-shirt for this one as well, so check it out (as well as the 70’s Retro Party banner for the con) as I dropped it into the Illustrations>Official Convention Art section!
Also just wrapped up my final chibi manga comics for the Star Trek Manga Vol. 2, in which I’ll have 4 chibi strips … 2 “The Red Shirts” strips, and 2 “The Trek Life” strips, converting Carl and the gang from my STARTREK.COM strip into chibi characters! Lots of fun. And as ever, keep your peepers out for IDW’s Trek comics in comic shops near you, as there’s more Trek Life fun there as well, not to mention Star Trek magazine, featuring a few Trek Life comics to boot.
Until next time (or when I finally update some more art!) … in the words of Stan Lee…
Excelsior!

Hope this finds you having a good beginning of summer. DRStudio is keeping busy with lots of fun artwork, a whole lot of Star Trek work, and lots of convention art as well as I prepare to go to Vulkon's Ohio show in July and Creation's Vegas show in August. Will be adding some new content to the site soon - got a little delayed with the workflow, but making plans to beef things up. Keep checkin' - might even be talking daily content in the form of more of those panel cartoons down in bottom right corner of your screen!

Cartoons and Comics Abound!

Hello, my friends!

Welcome to David Reddick Studio HQ, where you can find all the goings on of your fearless cartoonist, aided only by his trusty pen, paper (and Photoshop) and a whole lotta love, and how he uses it to change the world for the sillier.

In the news today we have several new things out there for your wandering eye. Be sure to check out the always splendid STAR TREK MAGAZINE by Titan Publishing, where, this issue (#5 in the US) I have 2 green Orion Slave Girl illustrations, as well as my regular "The Trek Life" comic strip on page 2. Also, be sure to check out the current issue of NICKELODEON magazine, as I have a lil' gag cartoon in the "Gag Station" portion of that magazine as well. And make sure you catch issue #5 of IDW Publishing's "Star Trek: The Space Between" comic book, as starting with that issue, I'll have a "The Trek Life" backup comic page in that issue, as well as #6. In addition, watch for other great IDW Publishing Star Trek comic books in the future for more "The Trek Life" backup comic goodness! I'm also currently working on some "The Trek Life" manga and some other Star Trek chibi manga work for Tokyopop's Star Trek manga Vol. 2. Word has it that Wil Wheaton (love ! his blog) will also be contributing to that volume. And if that's not enough fun, be sure to watch out for my good pal Scott Kurtz's PVP comic book, where I'll have a new comic backup in issue #35, called "Intelligent Life!" Big thanks to Scott and Kris at Halfpixel.com for having me on "The Kris and Scott Power Hour" podcast last night as well. Great fun!

Also, be sure to visit my good friends at Vulkon Entertainment, where you can pick up a cool shirt I designed for their upcoming "Ladies of Sc-Fi" convention in Orlando, FL. I'm also preparing for some upcoming Star Trek and sci-fi convention appearances, which I'll list here soon.

That about does it for now, friends, be sure to check back often and poke around the various galleries... you never know when DRS gremlins will drop new artwork in them for your optically-charged pleasure! And hey, if you pop by here, don't leave without hitting the "contact" button over to the right there and drop me a note saying hello. I always like to hear from my pals out there in web-land!

Your cartooning pal,

David

What's happening now!

Hi folks! Well, I've been so busy that it's been too long since I've dropped by for a news announcement, but thought I'd update you on some cool happenings here at David Reddick Studio Central:
If you're a basketball fan, you may have seen a new kids coloring poster I just finished for the NCAA come out of their headquarters recently. And the BIG news of the month is that one of my characters from my comic strip "The Trek Life," Kate Stevens, now has her own advice column on the official StarTrek Website, STARTREK.COM, where "The Trek Life" lives. She will answer your questions about life, love, and all things Trek and in-between every other Wednesday. And remember... "The Trek Life" runs every Monday (and on various special occasions!) A very unique and exciting new expansion to "The Trek Life" universe, it should promise to be a lot of fun!
Also, keep your eye out on convention throwers Vulkon Entertainment, as I just finished a cool new illustration for t-shirts for their "Ladies of Sci-Fi" convention. Also, keep your eyes peeled for the next April issue (#4) of "Star Trek Magazine," in bookstores everywhere, as in addition to my regular "The Trek Life" comic strip, I'll have a few yummy and colorful Orion Slave Girl illustrations that will help keep you warm as you wait for summer to arrive! Lots more happening too... new Trek Life product designs for the Shop on STARTREK.COM, as well as lots more content and regular weekly comic strips at Balloonatiks.com as well, which will be growing by leaps and bounds very soon. Also pop over to my friends at TrekUnited, for some great Sci-Fi news and their newsletter HFO, which now features some sci-fi cartoons of mine as well. See? Lots happening! Will check back soon! Oh, and Happy Spring!

Peace and Long Life,

David

Interview, Toons, Art Charity Auction in TrekUnited Newsletter

Greetings, my friends! Sorry it's been so long since I've posted anything, but I've been incredibly busy with various great projects, and having too much fun doing them. Be sure to check out this month's edition of "HFO" (Hailing Frequencies Open), the official newsletter of TrekUnited, as my good friends over there have published a recent interview with me about my work, as well as a nifty single-panel cartoon for the issue to boot - and if that's not enough, you'll also find info on how you can bid (and buy) an original painting of mine from TrekUnited, as all proceeds from the sale will go to charity (the American Cancer Society), so it's a very worthy cause, and I invite you to head over and check it out - Thanks TrekUnited!

Lots more art and news on the way, and will reveal soon the goings on here at David Reddick Studio, the most fun you can have without a prescription!!

Cheers,

David

Beamed Back from Vegas!

Hello, my friends! I'm back from Vegas and the time of my life. I had the pleasure of meeting the greatest fans in the world, and made a LOT of new friends. I was a guest at Creation's 40th Anniversary Star Trek convention at the Hilton where I had a Trek Life booth, I got to speak on stage, meet and talk with folks, and I and the STARTREK.COM team (BIG shout out to Marc, Tim and Sandy! Thanks for everything!) gave away a zillion of "The Trek Life" buttons, stickers and handouts, and I signed and sketched plenty along the way. It was truly amazing, and my absolute pleasure to meet you all at such a wonderful event. I've already heard from many of you, please don't hesitate to drop me a line! (Just click "CONTACT") Here's to next year, and some more conventions in between.

Also, don't forget to check out the brand-spanking new STAR TREK MAGAZINE #1 (#128 for our UK friends) on newstands now, featuring The Trek Life comic strip as a regular feature in every issue starting now. Star Trek Magazine #2 (129 in UK), on sale in October, will feature an article on me and The Trek Life, as well as the regular comic - and a cool illustration to boot!

And I know a lot of you mentioned a Trek Life book in Vegas ... if you would like to see a Trek Life book, I would like to invite you (or beg? heh heh) to drop a line to STARTREK.COM and ask for a Trek Life book at: treklife@startrek.com. Thanks so much for your support. I'll write again soon, but until then, Live Long and Prosper!

Keep Livin' The Trek Life,

David
